Way back in 1899, CESC, then Calcutta Electric Supply, had the privilege of bringing thermal power to India by setting up a small generating unit in Calcutta, then the second city of the British Empire. Over the years, along with Calcutta, CESC has grown, the maximum demand having risen slowly but steadily from 1 MW to the current 1500 MW.

We, at CESC, are proud of our association with a metropolis like Calcutta where we have the privilege of serving nearly 2.5 million consumers.

A power utility is just not a company. An utility serving a great city must have the mission to provide great service for citizens.

From 1 MW, CESC generating capacity, over a century has reached 1225 MW.

Over the years, CESC has secured a special place amongst the power companies in India, we are proud of our generating performance, our distribution strength and our commitment to live up to consumer expectation. Coming closer to consumers and responding to consumer needs are our commitment. We will do our best to keep Kolkata as one of the best lighted cities of the world. We will stay ahead of others.
