Converting CESC House into Green Building

CESC House - INDIA's 1st LEED Platinum certified Heritage Building by US Green Building Council

CESC House has been recertified as "LEED Platinum" in November 2020 by US Green Building Council under Version 4.1 Dynamic Arc Platform. This is the first such project in Kolkata. The Dynamic Plaque not only tracks the continuous performance of the building but also takes the building management system digitally using less time and manpower. CESC House has bagged the unique distinction of being the First Heritage Building in India to get a LEED Platinum rating from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC)

In April 2015, CESC House received LEED Gold Rating under Existing Building Category by US Green Building Council. This breakthrough was a step towards multiple sustainable practices adopted by CESC.

This improvement from GOLD to PLATINUM comes with a bunch of remarkable and consistent changes made in the building

Green building footprint of CESC Ltd now spans across multiple Green certified buildings including CESC House (LEED Platinum), RPSG House (IGBC Platinum), Chakmir Substation (IGBC Platinum), Haldia Admin Building (IGBC Platinum), NPCL Corporate office (LEED Gold) and the NPCL Customer care office (LEED Gold)

RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group has been awarded the United States Green Building Council Leadership Award for South East Asia 2021 for its one of a kind project - CESC HOUSE - being the first heritage building in India to achieve LEED v4.1 O+M Platinum rating.

This award recognizes outstanding organizations who are at the forefront of the green building community and their pursuit in enhancing zero waste initiatives.

Built in 1933, CESC House, a heritage building and the corporate headquarter of CESC has been converted into a LEED certified green building by implementing various facility improvement measures (FIM). On an average, 540 nos full time employees occupies the building along with 300 nos supporting staff and 260 nos visitors. This building has office cabin areas & conference rooms and the total built up area of the building is approximately 83,120 sq. ft.

Salient Features of the project

Energy Efficiency
  • Points were achieved through the No cost/Low-cost Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) of reduction in Lighting Power Density (LPD)
  • Use of ample daylight
  • Performance improvement of Cooling tower
  • Replacement of lamps with LED to reduce the energy consumption in the performance period.
  • Occupancy & Lux level sensors in cabins
Human Experience
  • Points were achieved through the fresh air damper opening in the site.
  • In occupant comfort survey, employees are satisfied.
Waste Management
  • Points were achieved through the Organic Waste Composting machine implemented and all organic wastes are composed onsite.
Water Efficiency
  • Points were achieved through the improvement in cooling tower performance
  • All sanitary wares are low flow fixtures, dual flow fixtures, aerators etc., this leads to reduction in Water Consumption
Transportation
  • Maximum employees using public transportation
Indoor Air Quality
  • The project has provided Fresh air fans in office room this enhances the Indoor Air Quality level.
Offsite Landscaping
  • A lot of credits were earned from creating green spaces at offsite locations

The above changes, have resulted in making CESC House an exemplary project in the Green Budlings arena. Adding another world-class feature to the RPSG Group's achievements, this recognition further increases the Group's green footprint.
